West Wales is positively teeming with wildlife and you won’t have to go very far in order to see it. From the balcony and sun deck at Celyn Parc you’ll be able to watch Buzzards and Red Kites looking for a spot of lunch or just soaring lazy circles in the sky and if you keep very quiet and still in the evening, you might see the foxes and badgers.
Not quite so easy to see are the Sparrowhawks, Pergrine Falcons and Ravens, in fact you’ll probably hear them before you see them, in the case of the Raven their wings make quite a distinctive swishing sound as they fly overhead. With the falcons it’s generally their call which will alert you to the fact that they are in the area.
Down on the ground, usually near a bank on a sunny day, a rustle in the grass may betray the presence of a lizard or two, they move incredibly quickly and will dive for cover. If you stay very, very still they will come out again. It’s well worth the wait, they are exquisite.
New Quay harbour, about 5 miles away, is a good place to spot dolphins, they sometimes come very close to the shore. Boat trips to see them further out are available from New Quay.
